Emma (Novak) Jirak. Frank and Marlyse bought Marlyse’s home farm in Winneshiek Co., Jackson Twp., Section 5. Frank farmed and worked for the county, retiring in 1987. Frank died 18 Oct 1990 of an apparent heart attack. Marlyse still lives on the farm. Frank and Marlyse Neuzil in 1989 Frank and Marlyse had 2 sons and a daughter: Galen Francis, Carol Marie and Kevin Joseph. Galen Francis graduated from Turkey Valley Community School and Lincoln Tec in Des Moines. He worked in Spillville at the Ford garage and on 28 Apr 1984 married Teresa Kramer. Galen and Teresa have one daughter Rachel Kramer. The family lives in Kasson, MN and Galen works for Rochester Motor Cars as a Service Advisor since Jun 1984. Teresa is a BSN at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester and works in ICU. Carol Marie graduated Turkey Valley Community school and NITI in Calmar. Carol lives in Spring Valley, MN and works at Samaritan Bethany Heights in Rochester for the last 8 years as a TMA. Kevin Joseph graduated from Turkey Valley High School and NITI in Calmar. Kevin married Mary Ann Gerleman 2 May 1987. Mary Ann is the daughter of Hugo and Leona Gerleman. Kevin and Mary have 2 children, Brandon Francis and Megan Ann. The family lives in Cresco and Kevin works at Camcar Textron (screw factory) in Decorah. Mary Ann works at Boatman Bank in Cresco and is the bank president’s secretary. Neuzil, Frank and Sophia (Frana)(Rebecca Neuzil) Frank Neuzil was born 24 Dec 1858 at Bechyne, Kroj Tarbor, Bohemia (now Czech Republic), the 3rd child of Jan and Katerina (Jaros) Neuzil. Frank married Sophia Frana, daughter of William Wendel (Vaclav) and Marie (Phillipensky) Frana 17 Apr 1888 at St. Wenceslaus Church. Sophia was born in Milwaukee, Wl 4 Apr 1870. Frank farmed the Neuzil family farm located 3 1/2 miles southwest of Spillville in Sumner Twp., Section 26, until his son John F. married in 1921 and took over the farm. Sophia died 10 Dec 1907 and is buried in the St. Wenceslaus Church Cemetery, Spillville. Marking her grave is a large iron cross monument with the inscription in Czech spelling her name Zofie Neuzilova. After Frank’s son took over the family farm Frank bought a 120 acre farm in Price Co., Wl. He lived there for some years and willed the land to his daughter Ludmila with whom he lived for some years in his old age. Frank died at age 92 on 26 Aug 1951. Frank and Sophia had 5 children: a son Frank died in infancy, Anna (entered the convent), Mary, John F. and Ludmila all of whom were married 26 Apr 1921 in a triple wedding at the Holy Trinity Church in Protivin, IA. Mary (b. 12 Feb 1889) married Joseph Riha. They farmed in the Ft. Atkinson area and had 10 children: Mary A. married Felix Wenthold, Lillian married Robert Polashek, Josephine M. married Louverne Huinker, Joseph F., Angela E. married Dean Fortney, Helen married Gordon MacMasters, George, Georgina married Julius Novak, Clarence and Clara. Mary Riha died 15 Jan 1967. Anna (b. 8 Jul 1893) entered the Sacred Heart Convent at Lisle, IL 7 Jun 1907 at age 14. Anna was given the name of Sister Mary Justina. She became superior of St. Joseph Orphanage in Lisle in Sep 1931 and held that position until 1953. She died 10 Mar 1962 at age 69 and is buried in the convent cemetery, “St. Scholastica’’s Cemetery." John Frank (b. 6 Sep 1896) married Eleanora M. Novak. They farmed on the Neuzil family farm and had 7 children: Frank E. married Marlyse Jirak, August A. married Dorothy Ondrashek, Lewis C. married Grace Moudry and after a divorce married Jan Comptor, Anthony C. married Victoria Lujan, Eleanor J. married Melvin Jirak, Justina V. married Curtis F. Crabtree and Cyril J. married Rebecca Pecinovsky. John F. died 15 Nov 1951 and is buried in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. Ludmila, baptized Lillian, (b. 9 Aug 1898) married Edward A. Novak. They farmed in the Elma area and had 4 children: Mary married Arthur Phillips, Eddie married Agnes Lipa, Mildred married Alois Hrdlicka and Tony married Gladys Zobeck.
